The thesis prize is founded by the research centres of the Arts Academies Zuyd to encourage students to make theses (and/or documentations of artistic processes) that do justice to their own artistic practice.

De wedstrijd SCRIPTIEKUNST is een initiatief van de lectoraten binnen de Kunstopleidingen van Zuyd: Technology Driven Art (Peter Missotten), Resilient Design Practice (Tom Luyten) en What Art Knows (Ties van der Werff).
Op deze site kom je alles te weten over de wedstrijd SCRIPTIEKUNST die de lectoraten binnen de Kunstopleidingen van Zuyd jaarlijks organiseren voor de beste scriptie en/of documentatie van het eigen werk.
Doel is een originele en inspirerende aanpak van scripties binnen de Kunstopleidingen te stimuleren. Zo bouwen we ook een referentieplek op waar studenten en docenten, inspirerende voorbeelden van scripties binnen de bachelor- en masteropleidingen kunnen vinden. Ook een kritische reflectie op en documentatie van het eigen werk komt in aanmerking voor deze prijs.
Alle inzendingen worden getoetst op gedegenheid, originaliteit en diversiteit in de aanpak.
On this site, you can find out everything about the SCRIPTIEKUNST competition, which is organized annually by the lecturers within Zuyd's Art Programs for the best thesis and/or documentation of one's own work.
The aim is to encourage an original and inspiring approach to theses within the Art Programs. In this way, we are also building a reference site where students and teachers can find inspiring examples of theses within the bachelor's and master's programs. Critical reflection on and documentation of one's own work is also eligible for this award.
All submissions will be assessed on their thoroughness, originality, and diversity of approach.

Met 30 inzendingen bleek 2025 opnieuw een vruchtbaar jaar te zijn. Niet alleen de hoeveelheid, maar ook de kwaliteit van de ingestuurde scripties lag - opnieuw - hoog. Dat is over de jaren heen een opvallende trend: scripties winnende kunstopleidingen worden steeds verscheidener in vorm en structuur, zonder dat de kwaliteit daaronder lijdt. Integendeel zelfs: door een vorm en structuur te kiezen die klopt voor het gekozen onderwerp, winnen de scripties aan diepgang, leesbaarheid en relevantie voor de eigen artistieke praktijk.
Scriptiekunst.org wordt vanaf 2025 georganiseerd vanuit de drie lectoraten binnen de kunsten: ‘Technology Driven Art’, ‘What Art Knows’ en ‘Resilient Design Practice’. Nu die drie lectoraten samen een Werkcentrum gaan vormen, verzameld rond de centrale onderzoeksstrategie ‘thinking with your hands’, leek het ons gepast om de jury te vormen van scriptiekunst.org 2025.
We koppelen de uitreiking scriptiekunst.org 2025 aan onze aanwezigheid op de Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven, tijdens het feestelijk afsluitmoment in Sectie C, op zondag 26 oktober om 14u..
De Jury scriptiekunst.org 2025 bestaat uit Tom Luyten (Resilient Design Practice), Ties van de Werff What Art Knows) en Peter Missotten (Technology Driven Art).
De jury heeft uit de zeer diverse en hoogstaande inzendingen unaniem een duidelijke winnaar gekozen:

Daarnaast wil de jury graag drie aanmoedigingsprijzen uitreiken voor drie scripties die - op de meest uiteenlopende wijze - indruk gemaakt hebben op de jury:

Nerea Contreras Benito (Master Interior Architecture) met ‘Time and Emptiness in Paused Spaces’
Jakub Skorvaga (iArts) met ‘jakob lotta's notes on love aiDS ; Age Ambiguity and the making of Novena Hopes’

With 30 entries, 2025 proved to be another fruitful year. Not only the quantity, but also the quality of the theses submitted was – once again – high. This has been a striking trend over the years: theses from winning art programs are becoming increasingly diverse in form and structure, without compromising on quality.
On the contrary, by choosing a form and structure that suits the chosen subject, the theses gain depth, readability, and relevance to the students' own artistic practice. Starting in 2025, Scriptiekunst.org will be organized by the three research groups within the arts: “Technology Driven Art,” “What Art Knows,” and “Resilient Design Practice.”
Now that these three research groups are going to form a Work Center, gathered around the central research strategy ‘thinking with your hands’, it seemed appropriate to us, to form the jury for scriptiekunst.org 2025 for once.
We are linking the scriptiekunst.org 2025 award ceremony to our presence at Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven, during the festive closing event in Section C, on Sunday, October 26, at 2 p.m.
The scriptiekunst.org 2025 jury consists of Tom Luyten (Resilient Design Practice), Ties van de Werff (What Art Knows), and Peter Missotten (Technology Driven Art).
From the highly diverse and high-quality submissions, the jury unanimously chose a clear winner:
Emily Wermeier (Master Interior Architecture) with ‘Architecture speaks, are you listening? - The influence of sound on the experience of space’.
In addition, the jury would like to award three incentive prizes for three theses that impressed the jury in very different ways:

De volgende inzenddatum voor de wedstrijd is 31 juli 2026 om 23u59 - voor scripties geschreven in het schooljaar 2025-26 binnen de kunstopleidingen van Zuyd.
Als student stuur je zelf je scriptie in.Daarbij geef je de toestemming - als je wint - tot publicatie op deze site en/of publicatie in boekvorm op beperkte oplage (max. 300 ex die niet-commercieel verspreid worden binnen het kunstonderwijs). Enkel de winnende scripties worden openbaar gemaakt.
Ook documentatie van je eigen artistiek werk(proces) komt in aanmerking.
ZEND ZE IN, ZELFS ALS JE NIET HELEMAAL OVERTUIGD BENT DAT DE SCRIPTIE GEMAAKT IS 'ZOALS HET HOORT'.
Een goede scriptie is:
1. Origineel - een scriptie mag best buiten de lijntjes kleuren, zowel in vorm als inhoud. Daarbij draagt de vorm wezenlijk bij aan de originaliteit van het artistiek onderzoek.
2. Gedegen - een scriptie baseert zich op grondig onderzoek en/of bronnenmateriaal.
3. Persoonlijk - een scriptie is gelinkt aan je eigen artistiek praktijk en vertrekt vanuit een persoonlijke fascinatie.
4. Genereus - een scriptie laat de lezer toe tot haar wereld.
Naast de winnaar (die een geschenkbon van 500 euro wint) worden maximaal drie aanmoedigingsprijzen uitgereikt (met een geschenkbon van 300 euro)!
Daarnaast kan de jury ervoor kiezen een winnende thesis in boekvorm uit te geven.

Thesis prize
The research centres within the Arts Academies Zuyd have taken the initiative of organising a contest for the best thesis or documentation of work.
The contest is aimed at both bachelor- and master students.
On this site, you can find information about the contest for the best thesis and/or documentation of work, which will be organised annually by the Arts Academies Zuyd. The aim is to stimulate an original and inspiring approach to theses within the Arts Academies Zuyd. In this way, we also create a point of reference for students and lecturers within the Faculty to find inspiring examples of theses within the bachelor- and master programmes. Apart from the regular thesis, a critical reflection on or documentation of work can also be submitted.
All submissions will be tested for thoroughness, originality and diversity of approach. The jury will consist of professionals and artists from within and outside of Zuyd University of Applied Sciences.
The most exciting thesis will be awarded with a voucher of 500 euro and can eventually be published as a book.
A maximum of 3 outstanding theses wille be awarded with a voucher of 300 euro as an encouragement.
You can only submit your thesis or documentation on your own initiative.
By doing so you agree to the publication of your winning thesis on this site and/or as a book (which will be distributed non-commercially within the arts education Zuyd - max. some 300 ex.). Only winning theses will be made public.
The next deadline for submission is: July 31th 2026 (at 23u59) – for theses/documentations created in the school year 2025-26.
Also documents describing the way you make your art (in progress or not) can be submitted.
PLEASE FEEL FREE TO SUBMIT YOUR WORK, EVEN IF YOU DON'T FEEL OVERLY SURE ABOUT IT…
A good thesis should/could be:
1. Original - an art thesis should allow itself to think outside of the box. Both in form and content, it should be original in its approach.
2. Thorough - an art thesis should be grounded in some form of thorough, artistic research and be based on a wide variety of resources.
3. Personal - an art thesis should be relevant for the art practice of the student/artist. It should originate in a personal fascination.
4. Generous - an art thesis should share something with the reader.

SCRIPTIEKUNST.ORG 2024 : AND THE WINNERS ARE…
Size doesn’t matter.
Dat was zeker het motto van de scriptiekunst.org wedstrijd dit jaar. Hoewel we maar 23 inzendingen kregen viel het de jury meteen op hoe hoog de kwaliteit van de oogst was. Meer dan ooit zijn scripties uiterst diverse instrumenten geworden om vorm te geven aan een persoonlijk relevant artistiek onderzoek. Alle opleidingen waren dit jaar min of meer gelijk vertegenwoordigd. Ook dat is een prettige vaststelling.
Een winnaar kiezen leek al meteen een best ingewikkeld zaak te worden: juist door de grote diversiteit aan vormen en onderwerpen, in combinatie met de grote originaliteit en gedrevenheid van vele inzendingen.
Daarom hebben we besloten om dit jaar uitzonderlijk twee eerste prijzen uit te delen, naast twee ondersteunende prijzen.
De jury kiest er ook voor om de officiële bekendmaking los te koppelen van een wat groter event waarin we de winnaars in de schijnwerper zetten. Alle winnaars verdienen een podium waarin ze hun werk kunnen delen met een groter publiek. Voor de precieze vorm hiertoe gaat de jury nog op zoek naar een geschikte partner in het kunstenveld. We’ll keep you posted.
Dit jaar daarom ook geen goedbedoelde tips of subtiel geformuleerd ergernissen vanwege de jury. Wel een groot enthousiasme over de steeds stijgende kwaliteit en diversiteit van de inzendingen. Als we ze met een teletijd machine een tiental jaar geleden hadden laten deelnemen, dan was de grote meerderheid van de inzendingen een potentiële winnaar geweest. Maar helaas - of juist gelukkig - ligt de lat dit jaar wel heel hoog.
En dat levert uiteindelijk - unaniem - vier winnaars op.
De Jury scriptiekunst.org 2024 bestond uit Theo Ploeg , Peter Missotten, Ulrike Scholtes en Annosh Urbanke.
